The End of the Road Tax Disc

February 16th, 2014 By Blog Editor
Tax Discs Everyone is familiar with the road tax disc. It's that little circular piece of paper that you display on your windscreen to prove you've paid your road tax. They've been around since 1921 but it's all about to end, as the whole system is set to go fully electronic. Since 2008 visually checking tax discs has dropped by 75%. Huge savings will be made in admin, some of which will be passed on to us, such a reduction in road tax that will be in the range of 5-10%, which of course will be very welcome! Will you be sad to see them go? From their invention in 1921 they've been through some changes. In 1928 they began to be printed in colour, and in 1938 perforations were added. The latest design was created in 1961 and saw the addition of anti-forgery measures. Of course with electronic car tax registration, forgery will no longer be an issue. The new laws will come into effect on the 1st of October.
